What inspired you to start acting?

Strangely enough, I am naturally shy. I found out very early that acting and being in character helps me break out of my shell and do things that I maybe wouldn’t have done otherwise.

You play a multitude of instruments, which one is your favorite to play?

I love playing all kinds of different instruments and I love them all for different reasons. The one I would say I clicked with more would be guitar because it came very naturally to me. I started playing piano when I was six years old and can read music. So picking up other instruments is easier because of that foundation.

You’ve been in many musicals and plays. What is your dream stage production role?

Anything Lin Manuel Miranda is a part of would be a dream come true. I have a few roles I’d love to play but the first that came to mind is Danny Zuko from Grease.

You often have to work with people much older than you, how do you keep up with being a kid?

I really enjoy my time on set with adults. I learn a lot from my experiences with all of the amazing people I get to work with. It feels like sometimes I even bring out the kid in them. But, I also know when it’s time to work and get the job done.

Your film Cha Cha Real Smooth recently premiered at Sundance, what are you excited for people to see in it?

I really hope that people find the characters and situations in this movie relatable. My own take away from the film is that everyone has times in their lives when they feel uncertain and don’t really know what the future holds. And, it’s ok not to know or have your plans go in a different direction.

Being away from home is hard especially at your age, how do you cope with being away so much?

The only times I ever feel homesick is when I’m not busy. When I’m actually on set and filming I am fully enveloped in the character and telling their story. When I’m not filming, it helps to keep myself busy by hanging out with other cast members, reading, playing instruments, watching movies/shows or travelling around the area.

What do you celebrate with your family when you are home?

Our family has a lot of fun with movie and game nights. My papa comes over every Sunday and we play games and have a nice dinner. We celebrate most holidays together as well and decorate our entire house (inside and out) for most of the major holidays.

You enjoy writing and we hear you are currently writing a novel, how far along are you?

I have the concept and outline complete for the entire series and am finishing up the first novel. My biggest problem is that I keep rewriting. I am also really close to finishing a screenplay.

Who is your favorite musical artist?

I love so many musical artists and can’t possibly pick a favorite. I have different playlists for different moods or activities. I like the Beatles a lot and love their variety in music. Paul McCartney is an absolute genius! I also really like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Elton John, and David Bowie. I enjoy bands like ABBA, Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, They Might Be Giants, The Clash, The Cranberries, The Smiths, Nirvana, REM and Queen. But, I also love classical and jazz music like, Mozart and Louis Armstrong. I can’t stop listening to the “Tick, Tick, Boom” soundtrack lately. I just really love music and could go on and on.

Would you like to record an album someday?

I think it would be really cool to record an album with me playing the guitar and my sister and I singing. We do that a lot at home a lot. We also like to play around with piano duets and writing songs together. Nothing to record yet though. It’s mostly just for fun.
